New video for today, from 1984. This is the 21st concert of the 1984
Europe Tour. The tape comes from LB-6531 and is a complete audience
stereo recording. It includes the intermission by Greg Sutton (I've Got
To Use My Imagination).
1984 marks a new era for Bob, after the release of his new album
Infidels, he launched a 27 dates tour in Europe.
The tour didn't have a similar shine as his appearance on Late Night
With David Letterman, being more of an arena rock marathon than a small
club tour. It may hurt the delicacy and intimacy of Dylan's lyrics, but
the energy makes up for it. While Real Live is decent, with a reworked
version of Tangled Up In Blue, it doesn't have some of the better
performances from those nights. The presence of many stars like Mick
Taylor, Carlos Santana or Van Morrison gives a new light on certain
songs.
Barcelona is the best show of the tour. Simple as that. A killing set, a
perfect performance, clear sound, what else could you ask? Maybe the
return of Lay Lady Lay for the first time in eight years?! The last time
it was played was during the legendary last show of the Rolling Thunder
Revue, in Salt Lake City (a holy grail for fans). Also we have a
cataclysmic performance of Señor (Tales Of Yankee Power), thanks to the
guitar geniuses Carlos Santana and Mick Taylor. If only Bob could play
like this during the whole eighties, it would have been a blast.
But wait there's more! A few selected tracks from the soundboard are
available and included here, thanks to John Leiper.
For the highlights, go with all the songs, everything is flawless. I'm
sure you love it as much as I do.
