Lo más irónico del caso tremendo éste del "Monstruo de Amstetten", que tuvo a su hija encerrada durante veinticuatro años en el sótano y le hizo parir siete nietos. Al parecer, su plan era perfecto y sin rendijas: ni su esposa que vivía en la casa se enteró de nada en todos estos años. (Que ya hace falta tener el cerebro desconectado, o compartimentalizado).

Pero la ironía es que se agrietó el plan del individuo éste, o del dividuo éste más bien... cuando se apiadó de su hija y la dejó salir, acompañándola a visitar a su hija/nieta al hospital. Donde antes la había internado, cometiendo su primer error benevolente. Allí levantaron sospechas. Si hubiese sido un ogro consistente, un agujero negro inhumano de los que no dejan escapar la luz, seguramente no lo habrían descubierto aún y quizá hubiese muerto como un santo en su cama. Dejando a su vida secreta ya enterrada por adelantado.

Si es que no se puede ser bueno, pensará ahora.

La madrastra asesina se quita la careta

Ana Julia Quezada confiesa que mató al pequeño Gabriel.

Se resuelve de manera espectacular el caso de la desaparición del pequeño Gabriel, 'el pececito', al descubrir la Guardia Civil a su madrastra transportando el cadáver en el maletero de su coche para ir a ocultarlo.

La madrastra asesina es la pareja del padre y cuidadora del niño cuando desapareció, Ana Julia Quezada ("inmigrante-negra-dominicana-mujer" por más señas, y con antecedentes de estafa y quién sabe si asesinato en su propio entorno familiar).  Se hizo conocida estos días que llevaba el niño desaparecido por ir llorando en los informativos por su desaparición, e implorar piedad y ayuda a quien supiese dónde estaba Gabriel.

Ahora la madrastra de cuento de terror se quita la careta, y confiesa su autoría. Se la quita un poquito. Aún espera rebajar la condena. Ahora cede terreno y va a por "homicidio en defensa propia sin premeditación y por enajenación mental transitoria", la muy falsa. De paso aún acusa al pobre pequeño de agredirla a ella. Pero no se le tiene junto el chiringuito de su relato, pues hay evidencias claras de que preparó el crimen con antelación. Hay abismos de maldad, y aquí están a la vista.





Es un caso de doblez y maldad, una anagnórisis con arrancamiento de careta realmente espectacular. No es de extrañar la atención que ha despertado.

Sí es de extrañar que haya elementos como el podemoide Ignacio Escolar de El Diario, y las marionetas de Roures en Público, que pretendan convertirla en una víctima, por sus méritos de ser "negra-mujer-inmigrante". Como si en España se abominase de los negros, o de las mujeres, o de los inmigrantes, y no de los asesinos. Tergiversando de modo malvado, siniestro y manipulador la justicia de la indignación con esta monstrua.  Hace falta calaña. Y aún tendrán Público  y El Diario, esos 'informantes críticos', lectores y seguidores, —para que seamos conscientes de qué tipo de gente anda por ahí por la calle sobre dos piernas como si no pasara nada.

Como guinda de justicia poética, en medio de este escándalo, el PSOE propone suprimir la prisión permanente revisable, junto con Podemos, y con otros enemigos del país y frecuentes compañeros del delito.

Ójala de ésta se vayan por el sumidero TODOS. Es lo menos que merecen.

Intellectuals against 'evil'

Against evil, or against 'evil'? A comment to a piece by Madelon Sprengnether in Psychology Today, "Against 'Evil'—the Las Vegas Massacre".

Sprengnether writes 'against 'evil'"—meaning not that she is against evil deeds, but rather arguing, instead, she is beyond good and evil, and rejects the use of the term 'evil' to characterize any action, given that it is morally and intellectually simplistic.


My comment, then:

STRONGLY DISAGREE. 

 The piece seems aimed at discrediting the judgement of "good" or "evil" even in the face of such heinous acts as the Las Vegas massacre. In this sense, I am sorry to say, the piece largely qualifies as "evil" to me.

While there is much of the reasoning that can be understood and shared, the basic assumption is that we should ALWAYS try to empathize with the others who commit evil acts, and try to understand their motives. The assumption is that this is the only decent, intellectually and morally acceptable response.

Well it isn't. There are many contexts for human judgement and human positioning, and they cannot be exhausted. While I do not deny that part of the response to evil acts or massacres or genocides etc. may be an effort at understanding circumstances and motives etc., and (not for me though) an effort at empathizing with the perpetrator, in most cases, and for most ordinary purposes, the shorthand evaluation of EVIL is useful enough.  And it is NOT to be rejected or discredited in favour of the 'fallacy of the only context', i.e. the context of the writer of the present piece.

Fortunately, while educated intellectuals try and make their best efforts at blurring good and evil, and empathizing with criminals and psychopaths, most ordinary and decent human beings will stick to the decent shorthand of calling their acts plain EVIL.  It may not be an elaborate or publishable attempt at moral philosphy, but it is the basic decency on which human society is built. It is not to be discredited, least of all in favour of an empathy with evil.

The use of the term 'evil' positions us, indeed, with or against the person or rather the action being qualified. The person might have other qualities, e.g. beautiful hair, but the act is evil, and qualifying it as such only positions you with common humanity against a psychotic and nauseous action. You prefer equal distance, as a rule? Well, please yourself. But do not pass this as a universal moral criterion.

This piece is, sorry to say, an instance of the kind of writing and the kind of reasoning that gives "academic" its worst possible sense—and it is actually a fine example of 'la trahison des clercs', failing to stand on the side of basic human decency against what is commonly recognized as evil.
