Entrando por el portal grande
Empezamos este 2017 con buenas estadísticas, entrando con buen pie y por el portal grande. ResearchGate sigue siendo el segundo mayor repositorio académico del mundo, después de Academia, yo sigo siendo el autor más leído allí en Estética, en Literatura, y en Lingüística. Y hasta en mi departamento.
En Academia, por cierto, también estoy muy bien posicionado—y también en el portal número tres del pódium, la SSRN.
El portal académico español mejor situado en este ránking, Dialnet, está muy alto: en el número siete (por encima de la media de resultados de nuestras universidades, quiero decir). Es de nuestros vecinos y antiguos socios de la Universidad de La Rioja. Y en ese portal también aparezco, aunque más escasamente que en los otros, pues se limitan a los contenidos indexados por su biblioteca.

Termino el año aún subiendo
Continúa la racha de buenos resultados, para cerrar el año. Esta última
semana, como muchas otras, soy en ResearchGate el autor más leído en mi
departamento, y en las secciones de Lingüística, Estética, Literatura y
Filosofía.
En Academia no hay un ránking
comparativo tan claro, pero sigo estando
en el grupo máximo por visitas, el 0,1 por ciento superior. No hay
categoría más alta—aunque muchos, supongo, que estén en esa categoría
tendrán además un ránking de Academia más alto. Y en el SSRN, esta
última semana de diciembre se nos dice que:

Son buenos resultados en ResearchGate, los de esta semana y los de casi todas—y hay que creerme cuando digo que no están trumped-up—pero me pregunto si no les llegará a todos los usuarios de ResearchGate alguna medallita de píxeles así, a su medida, para arreglarles el día.

Mi posicionamiento a estas alturas
No es para coger vértigo, realmente, pero estoy bien posicionado en los repositorios académicos que más vengo usando, que son también los más relevantes en mi entorno: Academia, ResearchGate, y el Social Science Research Network (SSRN). Destaco, al menos, entre los hispanos, ahora que se dice que la Universidad española está tan mal posicionada en los índices internacionales. No lo dirán por mí, espero, que yo hago lo que puedo, y aún me quedo corto porque más debería hacer, ir a congresos y demás, meterme en acreditaciones y oposiciones, publicar peipas en revistas con alto impacto, etc. Pero bah, uno va eligiendo las cosas que mejor se le dan o más le gustan, y allí acaba destacando, aunque sea en colombofilia, o en filatelia.
La foto, por cierto, es de mi sobrino David, que le van las alturas físicas, y se pega el día en el Mordor local que hay al norte de mi pueblo. Poca competencia se encuentra partir de los dos mil metros, y menos en los tresmiles.
Que conste que no es por falta de competidores, empero. En la SSRN hay más de 300.000 académicos de las ciencias sociales y humanidades "compitiendo" (aquí compites de oficio, por existir, aunque no seas competitivo te ves involucrado en un "torneo" de los que organizan, donde siempre hay caballeros, y señoras, con mejor armadura que la tuya). De esos 300.000, extraen datos con los 30.000 más destacados. Y de esos 30.000, he conseguido ubicarme el número SIETE, un puesto no de pódium pero sí destacado, y que llevo defendiendo por así decir todo este año.
Bueno, confieso que no soy el séptimo autor más leído de la SSRN, sino el séptimo con más artículos aceptados. Hay varios criterios para destacar, y si no destacas en uno, pruebas en otro a ver. También soy bastante leído, también; yo al menos me leo todo lo que puedo y hasta me cito, pero ahí estamos más en el montón, o en la maratón de Nueva York.

En ResearchGate también estoy bien ubicado, repetidamente este año, destacando como el más leído ya sea en Lingüística, en Filología, en Literatura, o en Análisis del discurso. Aquí los resultados son semanales, y esto me dicen esta semana pasada: medallita en Literatura, y medallita en Análisis del Discurso:
Lo cual me corrobora en mi idea de que yo siempre iba muy centrado por el centro de la Filología, sin derivar demasiado hacia una cuneta o la otra, o quizá haciendo eses entre una y otra, además de irme por diversas carreteras secundarias que no me acaban de dar, sin embargo, mucha reputación académica.
Por último, en Academia.edu también estoy bien ubicado. Con una puntuación de 2.0 (que así en principio no dice mucho, pero Steven Pinker tiene 1,8). Pongo aquí una comparativa entre Pinker, de Harvard, y yo, para que se vea que no salimos tan mal parados en todos los torneos. (Bueno, en todos los demás foros y parámetros gana él, que les voy a decir, incluso tiene más pelo, aunque así a peso destaque yo).
Me guardo para el final otro récord que he descubierto que también tengo, o si no lo tengo no me quiten la ilusión: la prueba combinada o triatlón de figurar destacado en los tres repositorios a la vez. Si somos más montañeros en estos terrenos baldíos, lo que es yo no los veo.
Una cosa sí que sé: mejor posicionado no voy a estar nunca, así que aprovecho ahora para dejar constancia, desde la cumbre de esta dicha provisional.

Mi posicionamiento a fecha de estas alturas en el SSRN:
He bajado por número de nuevos artículos, o sea que ya flojeo, no pasaré probablemente de este puesto. Pero en fin, en él me mantengo, el puesto número 7 por número total de artículos aceptados, que no está mal, entre los 30.000 principales autores de esta red, o entre los 300.000 autores académicos de humanidades y ciencias sociales que participan en esta competición (obsérvese que en la última línea dicen que soy un "competidor".
Y esto es un "torneo":
Traduzco: de entre los 300.000 autores del SSRN, se hacen estadísticas con los 30.000 autores más visitados; se extraen los datos, y de entre esos 30.000 autores estoy el número 7 por número de artículos aceptados. No quiere decir que sea el séptimo más leído, ni el séptimo más citado, ni el séptimo mejor pagado. Ni siquiera el séptimo que más artículos ha escrito.

Mi semana en ResearchGate
Las redes sociales, incluidas las académicas supongo, están ahí para
autoinyectarse dosis de aprobación y narcisismo; mucho "I like", y a
disimular la información negativa, o a perderla de vista. Esta semana
(y muchas más) me informa ResearchGate que soy el autor más visitado de
mis áreas de especialización y de mi departamento—en esta red, supongo,
no en otras.
Me pregunto si a todos los académicos que se dan de alta en ResearchGate les masajean el ego de esta manera. Conmigo desde luego les da resultado, porque hasta me molesto en anunciarlo. Quizá mis colegas tengan resultados igualmente buenos, pero son más discretos y no lo dicen.

Sigo en el Siete
Sigo desde hace meses en el puesto número siete, por número de artículos aceptados en el SSRN, que es uno de los principales repositorios académicos del mundo—y el primero en ciencias sociales y humanidades. Es el mejor puesto que he tenido en un ránking. De allí no subiré, pero déjenme disfrutar mientras no bajo.

Retropost #791 (1 de marzo de 2016): En el Dream Team
Bueno, por fin por fin me ha llegado el volumen que encargué del anuario Symbolism (vol. 5, 2005), en el que tengo un artículo sobre Nabokov y la intertextualidad. Les ha costado, y lo he tenido que encargar y pagar yo mismo, o sea que sueldo por la contribución, cero; los beneficios se los queda todos la editorial, supongo. Y los venden caros, aseguro. Me mandaron primero dos birriosas separatas, y luego un paquetillo más, menos mal; pero la revista, en tapa dura, demasiado buena para enviarle un ejemplar a los autores. Así, desde luego, no pienso volver a jugar. Uno se cansa de hacer el primo, observando además que se han quedado con el copyright, no sé con qué derecho, pues yo jamás he firmado un contrato. Debe estar implícito en el hecho de contribuir a la revista. Lo que digo, una razón más para autopublicarse.
Claro que, autopublicándose, uno pierde el caché de aparecer publicado en sitios reconocidos, y al lado de gente reconocida. Bajas al nivel del casposo pasante que se autoedita un volumen de poemas en cien ejemplares (cincuenta para él y familia, y los cincuenta para distribución acaban en una librería de viejo veinte años después). No se puede caer más bajo que la autoedición, y sin embargo tienta, tienta...
En este caso, yo aparecí aquí por invitación. Aunque no sea el caso esta vez, nada tiene tanto caché como una revista que se presenta como "peer-reviewed" pero luego saque volúmenes especiales donde los editores captan por invitación a los autores. Aquí me invitó en este caso, supongo que por proximidad geográfica y colaboración previa, la Dra. Susana Onega, editora de este número sobre la intertextualidad, antes de que tuviésemos desavenencias sobre la plaza de cátedra a la que me presenté. Y la verdad es que estoy en buena compañía, todo un dream team de críticos escribiendo sobre la intertextualidad, supongo que también por invitación especial: Adolphe Haberer, presidente de la Sociedad Europea para el Estudio del Inglés (ESSE); Linda Hutcheon, la teorizadora más importante de Canadá seguramente, Jürgen Schlaeger, catedrático de la Universidad Humboldt de Berlín, Valentine Cunningham, de Oxford y conocidísimo en el mundillo; J. Hillis Miller, doctor honoris causa por nuestra universidad, el menor de sus méritos; Christian Gutleben, de Estrasburgo (captado como yo, supongo); Catherine Belsey, famosa postestructuralista-materialista; Daniela Carpi, conocida poco aquí pero más en Italia, Jean-Michel Ganteau, que no lo conozco, y Patricia Waugh, célebre teorizadora de la metaficción y el postmodernismo. Bueno, en general creo son más famosos que yo. Vamos a verlo en Google hits, un terreno en el que ando relativamente fuerte. Hacemos búsqueda con comillas:
"José Angel García Landa": 122.000 resultados Google. ("Aproximadamente", nos dice Google).
"Adolphe Haberer": 297 resultados Google (¿Quée? Esta medida no debe ser de fiar).
"Linda Hutcheon": 41.000 resultados Google. (Más son, pero menos también. Aquí algo falla).
"Jürgen Schlaeger": 546. Pues tiene más resultados "Susana Onega": 754.
"Valentine Cunningham": 11.200
"J. Hillis Miller": 57.600 ("Hillis Miller" a secas, que también debe ser él mayormente, tiene 68.100). Esto es más raro, este hombre sí es bastante famoso. Yo tengo resultados atípicos.
"Christian Gutleben": 247.
"Catherine Belsey": 20.900. Estoy pensando, decididamente, en subir mi caché.
"Jean-Michel Ganteau": 182. Ya decía yo que no lo conocía.
"Daniela Carpi": En 308 páginas hablan de ella.
"Patricia Waugh": 12.200. Pas mal, mais...
Bueno, resulta que al menos con un criterio objetivable y mecanizado, estoy en el dream team por méritos propios. Es más, resulta que tengo que ponerme las pilas y empezar a cobrar por mis apariciones en los sitios. Evidentemente estos resultados un tanto sorprendentes vienen de trabajar directamente en la red, haciendo un blog, la bibliografía, etc. Pero es lástima que no acudiesen a Google como criterio orientativo, por ejemplo, antes de ponerme un 1’8 sobre 10 en las oposiciones, ¿no?
Claro que vaya usted a saber qué dicen de mí en esas ciento veintidos mil páginas. Igual me ponen a caldo; ahí Google no da pistas.
Y un dato curioso para terminar. Abro el paquete donde me venían los dos ejemplares, directamente desde AMS Press, Nueva York, y qué veo, de relleno en el paquete un periódico. En español. Neoyorquino, pero en español. Y a toda plana, "Barcelona rompe marca del Real Madrid"... Nada, que estamos en la aldea global. Global, y aldea.

PS, 10 años después: Google ha tweakeado una y otra vez su algoritmo, para reducirme a proporciones más razonables. Ahora los resultados son mucho más igualados, y no en favor mío tan descaradamente.

Retropost #524 (28 de septiembre de 2005): Mi saldo web
Según mis diversos contadores de visitas, ayer recibí 208 visitantes en las distintas hueves que llevo. Y según los historiales de mis distintos navegadores, visité 208 páginas. Mi balanza de pagos web está a cero (me temo que suele estar en números rojos, pero lo cierto es que no tengo datos). En todo caso, tener un sitio web es la única manera de no incurrir en débitos impagables, si las visitas se consideran una unidad monetaria.
Aclararé, para los mal pensados por estas coincidencias, que visité muchos otros sitios aparte del mío.
La segunda unidad monetaria de la web son los resultados de Google (16.500 resultados para "José Ángel García Landa"), la tercera los enlaces de Technorati etc., supongo. De estos tengo cuatro o cinco, jeje.
Un dato alarmante: buscando "Shakespeare" hace un año en la web, Google daba más de cuatro millones de resultados. Buscándolo hoy, da cuarenta y seis millones de resultados. No quiero ni pensar en el año que viene. Es un consuelo que William Shakespeare tiene menos resultados que Shakespeare. Aquí va una muestra del nuevo canon guglificado, con unas cuantas figuras representativas. La posición relativa es curiosa a veces.

Subo al puesto ocho (o al uno)
Me complace comunicarme que contra prónosticos pesimistas, he vuelto a ascender en mi posicionamiento en el SSRN, el mayor repositorio de ciencias sociales y humanidades del hemisferio norte, y del sur.
Las estadísticas se refieren a los 30.000 autores principales, por número de visitas, de los más de 250.000 autores del repositorio. Pero entre estos 30.000 no destaco por número de visitas, donde mis cifras son más modestas. Como suele ser el caso, entre los diversos parámetros destaco por número de contribuciones. Mi mejor posicionamiento es el number five. El número cinco mundial por número de artículos subidos durante el último año: estoy ahí desde hace unos cuantos meses.
En forma de gráfico del IBEX, aquí aparece mi trayectoria en lo que el SSRN llama "este torneo", this tournament:
Ya querrían tener un gráfico así en Abengoa, o en el grupo Prisa. Todo lo que sube baja, pero de momento ahí seguimos, en la cumbre de nuestra fortuna, antes de la rápida caída.
Este puesto tan bueno es en un índice que mide la actividad, como el de visitas recientes. Pero otros tienen más staying power, y de esos destaco también en el ránking general por número de artículos subidos desde la creación del repositorio. Allí estoy el número ocho:
Están por delante de mí Robert W. McGee, economista de la Universidad de Florida; Robert F. Bruner y James G. Clawson, decano y catedrático eméritos de la facultad de económicas de la Universidad de Virginia; Alain Verbeke, catedrático de derecho en Lovaina; Gérard-François Dumont, catedrático de Geografía de la Sorbona; Daron Acemoglu, economista del MIT; Gerald Lebovits, un juez de Nueva York profesor de Derecho en Columbia. Y he adelantado en este aspecto a Pablo Fernández, economista de la Universidad de Navarra, que es el mejor posicionado globalmente por número de visitas. En ese dato no lo adelantaré, claro.
Otro detalle. De las áreas de humanidades soy el primero de la lista.
