1 + 1 = 2? (Evolucionismo y Matemáticas)

Examinamos algunos aspectos interdisciplinares de las matemáticas como paradigma de la evidencia racional, destacando algunas dimensiones paradójicas de la narratividad y temporalidad implícitas en sus operaciones, y situando la disciplina de la matemática en un paradigma cognitivo-evolucionista, en la línea propuesta por Lee Smolin y Roberto Mangabeira Unger. Un paradigma semejante sitúa la racionalidad matemática en el marco de la evolución cósmica, y viene a cuestionar el platonismo atemporal de muchos planteamientos corrientes en matemáticas. Es ésta una línea de investigación sobre la que puede arrojar más luz una perspectiva narratológica informada por el evolucionismo y por la semiótica cognitivista.

1 plus 1 = 2? (Evolutionism and Mathematics)

This paper examines some interdisciplinary aspects of mathematics as a paradigm of rational evidence, bringing out some paradoxical dimensions of the narrativity and temporality implicit in its operations, and situating the discipline of mathematics within an evolutionary-cognitive paradigm, along the lines proposed by Lee Smolin and Roberto Mangabeira Unger. Such a paradigm situates mathematical rationality within the frame of cosmic evolution, and questions the atemporal platonism of many common assumptions in the field of mathematics. This line of inquiry may be further illuminated from the standpoint of a an evolutionary narratology informed by cognitive semiotics.
