Comentario sobre las complejas estructuras temporales que aparecen en dos poemas de Borges ('La lluvia' y 'A un capitán de los ejércitos de Cromwell'). La poética de la representación temporal en Borges supone no sólo un juego dialéctico de prospección y retrospección ('retroprospección'), sino también una imbricación entre el tiempo representado en el poema, el tiempo de la escritura, y la propia experiencia vivida del lector, en la cual un juego similar de anticipación y retrospección se evoca y se usa como componente de la contrucción temporal del poema. Así logra Borges una memorable impresión de tiempo trascendido, una imagen literaria de la eternidad alojada sin embargo en la experiencia temporal.

Prospection, Retroprospection, Eternity

A commentary on the complex temporal structures in two poems by Borges ('La lluvia'; 'A un capitán de los ejércitos de Cromwell'). Borges's poetics of represented time involves not just a dialectical play of prospection and retrospection ('retroprospection') but also an involvement between the represented time in the poem, the time of writing, and the reader's own lived experience, in which a similar play of anticipation and retrospection is evoked and used as a component in the poem's temporal construction. Thus Borges achieves a unique poetical impression of transcended time, a literary image of eternity which is nevertheless embedded in temporal experience.
