Professor Dan Rebellato (RHUL) – Theatre, Sex and Zombies: The Strange Case of the Naturalist Stage
Naturalism is the single most influential
movement in European theatre of the past two hundred years. Yet through
it run faultlines that reveal profound contradictions in the value of
theatre, the role of the spectator, and the possibility of a scientific
stage. This talk, drawing on theatre, literature, philosophy, urban
studies and the visual arts, will try to restore both a sense of
naturalism’s radicalism and its perversity.
