(Italian petty aristocrat, Hemingway's friend and muse, met him in Venice and Cuba, inspired the romance in his novel Across the River and into the Trees, object of the older writer's pathetic infatuation; promoted by him as a poet, married, 2 children, committed suicide after bouts of depression)
