George Herbert Mead's symbolic interactionalism provides a social behaviorist theory of the origin of role-playing and social dramatism. Being a perspective which stresses the inherent theatricality of human interaction and of the human mind, it is therefore, in an indirect way, a theory of the psychosocial roots of drama. Where we find the origin of language, and the origin of the human self, there we find, as well, the origin of drama. Besides, Mead's concept of self-interaction resulting from internalized interaction is crucial for an adequate understanding of the generative process which gives rise to the complexity of the human mind.

Resumen en español: El interaccionismo simbólico de George Herbert Mead proporciona una teoría conductista social sobre el origen de la interpretación de roles y del dramatismo social. Al ser una perspectiva que enfatiza la teatralidad inherente a la interacción humana y a la mente humana es por tanto, en cierto modo, una teoría sobre las raíces psicosociales del drama. Donde hallamos el origen del lenguaje, y el origen de la identidad personal humana, allí hallamos también el origen del drama. Además, el concepto de autointeracción resultante de la interiorización de la interacción es crucial para una comprensión adecuada del proceso generativo que da lugar a la complejidad de  la mente humana.
