El cristal con que se mira: Diferencias críticas

Volvemos al libro de Stanley Fish ´Is There a Text in This Class?´, la obra más representativa del 'reader-response criticism', que no se echa atrás a la hora de hacer afirmaciones exorbitantes a la hora de vaciar de sentido el texto o las estructuras lingüísticas del mismo, para atribuir toda la carga de sentido al acto de interpretación. Aun si es exagerada, la teoría de la lectura creativa de Fish contiene un terreno común racional y productivo con el interaccionismo simbólico de Herbert Blumer en 'Symbolic Interactionism' o de George Herbert Mead en 'Mind, Self, and Society'. Señalamos aquí el parentesco entre la hermenéutica de Fish y la de los interaccionalistas, quedando apuntadas así ciertas consecuencias críticas de la filosofía interaccionalista en lo tocante a la interpretación literaria, y más específicamente en cuanto al significado de las interpretaciones divergentes.

Seeing through Colored Glass: Critical Differences

This paper retakes Stanley Fish's book 'Is There a Text in This Class?', the foremost example of Reader-response Criticism, which does not balk at making exorbitant claims voiding texts or their linguistic structures of any intrinsic meaning, in order to attribute the whole weight of sense-making to the act of interpretation. Although it is overly extravagant, Fish's theory of creative reading shares some rational and productive common ground with the symbolic interactionalist theories of Herbert Blumer in 'Symbolic Interactionism' or George Herbert Mead in 'Mind, Self, and Society'. The kinship between Fish's hermeneutics and that of the interactionalists is emphasized here, and some critical consequences of interactionalist philosophy as regards literary interpretation are pointed out, with particular reference to the role of divergent interpretations.
