Reading and Dying

I just read, in Tales from the Reading Room: "Wouldn’t it be just dreadful, I thought, if I were to die before reading all the books I own?"  Which suggests another, equally dreadful, formulation: "Wouln't it be just dreadful if I had to spend what remains of my life reading the books I've bought and left unread?" —The bottom line is, literature is long but life is shorter, and there ain't no cure for old age and death and unread stacks.

Right now I'm reading Hemingway Cutthroat, Man's place in the Universe, The Star-Rover, Evolution, What Makes Us Human? and The Odyssey. But I know I'll die before I read a fraction of the books on my waiting list.
